Are Childbirth Education Courses Covered By Insurance?

Currently we provide free information through our blog, learning channel and resource page. However as we get ready to launch Parentpiphany Platform Membership we’re including access to three comprehensive courses: Hello Pregnancy, Hello Postpartum and Hello Parenthood. As parents think about enrollment it leads to the question, are childbirth classes covered by insurance? We’ll get to the answer but first I’d…  I’m really excited to launch our membership program, available to both parents and employers. Not only are we preparing parents for their upcoming births but for the entire early parenting experience.  This means providing information for parents to achieve the most rewarding experiences from age 0 – 5 years.

Here’s the thing, one childbirth class can cost you anywhere from $75 to $600 depending on the format, material and length.

Access to childbirth class shouldn’t put a strain on your wallet. That’s why we created our affordable and innovative membership program. And I’ve got good news, your childbirth education classes may be covered by insurance! And you may be able to use your flex savings (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) to pay any difference.

So how do you get your childbirth education covered by your insurance?

Since every insurance plan is different the first thing you have to do is CALL your insurance company and find out what you are eligible for. Fortunately most insurance plans now cover childbirth classes either partially or in full. Grab your insurance card, give the number on the back a ring and tell them you want to take a childbirth class. You’ll want to ask them what the process is to have part or all of your class covered. They will be able to tell you what and how much they will pay towards childbirth education classes. If covered, most of the time you will pay out of pocket for the class and then get reimbursed by submitting a form and receipt to the insurance company.  However I cannot stress enough, that it’s up to you to call your insurance and find out what you personally are eligible for.

What if you don’t have insurance or the money to pay?

We get it; preparing for a baby is expensive. But here’s some really great news! The Parentpiphany Platform Membership has options. For parents, we have three membership levels – monthly, quarterly and annual (all of which are extremely affordable); you can enroll here. Got questions? Reach out and ask us. You can send your inquiry to hello@parentwithclarity.com.

Not sure childbirth education is for you? You’ve got nothing to lose but lots to gain!

Learn why these courses are an important part of becoming a parent. Let’s recap, your birthing class may be covered by your insurance plan. To find out what exactly is covered by your plan give them a call. Anything not covered by insurance can be paid for with a health savings (HSA) or flexible savings account (FSA) or out of pocket. Parentpiphany makes it uber affordable to be prepared for childbirth!
