To say 2020 has been challenging is probably the understatement of the year. So my sister, Kwamara Thompson, Founder of TEC brought a group of her best friends together to have a conversation about what it’s like to currently raise Black and Brown children.

Resources: check out these resources I’ve cultivated. Learn how to talk about race with your children or buy books and toys that depict Black and Brown children. Not sure where to start… The best advice I can offer is don’t get overwhelmed because you feel like you need to take it on all at once (you don’t), choose one resource and build from there.
A few personal reflections…
There’s no denying parenting is hard. Parenting in a society that is currently going through a major cultural shift as it relates to race makes it that more challenging.
There have been moments where I wanted to sit quietly and not engage in conversation but I’m so grateful that my parents taught me how to advocate for myself. And not only that but without conversation there cannot be change. So to that end as I continue to raise Black and Brown children I will lead by example and show them what strength looks like in the most difficult of times.
I’m so thankful for my support network because without them I’m not sure how I would be able to manage and process all the things big and small that impact my life on a daily basis.
